I notice the name of James Cox. He was my grandfather. Just to set the record straight, his real name was James Marrey. He adopted the alias ‘Cox’ when he joined the Lancashire Fusilers and signed up when he was 15. He had come across from Ireland and presumably didn’t want to be traced.. He fought in the Boer War and was injured and captured by the Boer at Spion Koop. He married and settled in Grimethorpe working as a miner.

Thank you for this Terry. I have passed the information on to my colleague who keeps our master records in order to add to our files. Very interesting, and I'm glad he made it home.
