The erection of this plaque was reported in the Sheffield Daily Telegraph on 15 October 1917, p.7.  This was just over a year after the death of Joseph Spencer Mitchell.

At Wath Parish Church yesterday a mural tablet was unveiled, and dedicated by the Vicar, the Rev. W. Keble Martin. The tablet bears the badge and motto of the R.F.C., and is inscribed [the inscription above was then quoted].

Joseph Spencer Mitchell is also remembered by a window in St Mary's Church in Wombwell, on the First World War Memorial Plaque in All Saints Church, Wath upon Dearne. He was remembered by an endowed bed in Beckett Hospital in Barnsley, however any physical plaque connected to that commemoration has been lost.

Joseph Spencer Mitchell, as it says above, is buried in Gezaincourt Cemetery, Somme, France and his grave is marked by the Commonweath War Graves Commission

This photo of Joseph's grave was taken in 2020 by Paul Reed. Thank you for sharing this with us via Facebook Paul.
