The plaque includes a Royal Engineers badge surrounded by blue mosiac, embedded in a frame of carved foliage resting in the centre of an elaborate pediment. At the bottom of the plaque more carved leaves support the frame with a Templar style cross in the centre of the foliage. The text is framed by tiny carved grapes, vines and foliage with touches of blue mosiac in the background.

The Mexborough and Swinton Times on 4 August 1917 (p.2) described the mural tablet as a 'work of art'. The dedication had taken place the previous Sunday, 29 July 1917.
